The "Seasons" of Costa Rica

So what will the weather do today?

In Costa Rica there are 2 Seasons known as the High Season and the Green Season.

It makes sense for me to think in terms of High (dry season) meaning "Summer" or high tourist time when it rains less and you can take advantage of more things to do without being threatened by the rain running you indoors.  And since summer in Costa Rica is Winter in the United States it is a great time to plan your winter vacation to get away to somewhere tropical!

And the Green Season (rainy season)?  There is no "Winter" here!  This is a time when all of the plant life in this beautiful rainforest happily soak up the abundant rain and turn green with thankfulness! In my opinion, it is still a great time to come to the coastal area because it is less crowded!  There is nothing more relaxing than a private secluded beach all to yourself to renew the spirit!

Bear in mind that it is after all a rainforest and can rain even in the High season but it typically is short and sweet and nicely cools things down a bit.  The temperatures range from 70 to 81 degrees year round and December, January and February are the coolest.  The many different elevations throughout the country can also have a bearing on the rain so when you travel from one area to another be sure and pack a lightweight rain jacket and umbrella.
