Festival Nacional de las Mulas

It is time for the annual Festival of  the Mules in the central pacific coastal town of Parrita!  If you like to go to the fair you will like this festival.

There will be a queen contest, food booths, games of skill, crafts, dances, karaoke, livestock and agricultural show, horse shows and a tractor rally.  The festival begins on February 11 and runs for two weekends until the 22nd.

And don't forget the famous mule race that started the whole thing years ago when only a few farmers raced their mules for fun.  It has certainly grown into a big event that draws a large crowd.  Early residents of Parrita used the mule as their primary work animal to plow fields and transport their crops to market so it is a tradition that still runs strong.

Organized by the Asociación para el Bienestar del Cantón de Parrita to attract the residents of the central valley out to the pacific coast and to share with the tourists this interesting Costa Rican tradition.

Please enjoy this video that was made at a previous festival.
Oh and did I mention candied apples?
See you at the festival!
