The Farmers Fair ~ Ferias del Agricultor ~ Quepos, Costa Rica

One of our favorite things to do on Saturday morning in Costa Rica is to drive down to Quepos, a charming little fishing village, about 30 minutes below us here in Costa del Sol between Parrita and Dominical and buy our supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers set up their booths on the high road that runs along the water so there is usually a nice cool breeze and you can watch the tides as they roll in and out. According to the level of the tides you might even get to watch some of the fisherman at work casting their nets in hopes of filling them with fish. On the right side of the bay you can see the original boat docks and to the left is the large new marina that is under construction to open this year.
The market is always alive with the hustle bustle of the farmers working hard to sell their wares. Eager for you to show interest in what they have to offer they are always willing to offer you a sample to taste and it usually works out well. When you taste the sweetness of the fruit you most always will want to take some home. There is an endless array of every fruit and vegetable that you could ever imagine and many other vendors selling cheese, fish, baked goods, jellies and jams, pies, fresh squeezed juices, agua de pipas, fresh spices, herbs and flowers.
The prices are usually much better than what you pay in the automercado or grocery store. Although each vendor has their own price for the product that they offer the CNP or National Product Council produces a suggested price list to the farmers to keep their pricing fair and competitive. Of course all of the weights and measures are done with the metric system and the prices are based on colones. CLICK HERE to view the suggest prices.
When you are done with your shopping it is always fun to go into the busy town and have some lunch or just browse through the many shops that line the streets.
