The Perfect Day Trip to the Three Pools Waterfall!

One of the most exciting things about Costa Rica is the many amazing places you can find when exploring the numerous back roads. We had heard of the Three Pools Waterfall (Tres piscinas Cascadas) from some of our friends and when searching the Internet for waterfalls in Costa Rica you will find several YouTube videos and interesting blogs about these fascinating secret hidden pools.

After seeking out promising directions and packing a picnic of fresh fruit, snacks and agua we grabbed some friends and headed out to see if we could indeed find this delightful dipping hole! 

South to Parrita, past the palm oil trees, a soccer field, then turn down a dirt road, past the village grocery and the crops of bananas, melons and papaya, beyond the canopy tour, left before the bridge, past the timber mill, left at the little house.......

There is a house where you park your car the kind owner charges you 2000 colones per person to watch your car! And then the hike that is approximately one kilometer....thru the gate, over the pasture pet the horse, watch your step, continue up the hill and around the bend and over the creek and soon you will hear that magical sound of water rushing over the rocks and splashing into the pool!

We made it! Now for the fun part....the climb up the side of the waterfall to the pool of your choice. We chose the middle one that had nice smooth rocks that you could just slide into the water on! Nice cold refreshing mountain water! And there was a waterfall that you could go up under for the most amazing back massage! The canopy of trees above made the most perfect shade and the sun peaked through occasionally.

We even saw one of the most beautiful blue butterflies!

 

It was an amazing day and on the hike back to the car we felt invigorated and rejuvenated! I think that Three Pools Waterfall is a place that we will return to many times!
