Pelicano Annual Surf Contest will support The Children this year!

It's that time of year when the great guys over at the Pelicano Hotel will be busy preparing for their annual surf contest! 

This surf contest is always done to benefit the locals.
Last year they made generous contributions to the Lifeguards of Esterillos and Bejuco!

This year the Surf Contest, Raffles and Bake Sale will be given to our local schools in Bejuco and Palo Seco to purchase much needed playground equipment!  

The goal has been set to raise $3500.00 and the Pelicano is reaching out to ALL Locals to mark your calendars to attend and to dig in your pockets to donate.  Local Businesses please donate your wares for the raffle...  A Dinner for Two,  A Night at your Inn,  A Discount Coupon to your Store,  A Free Cocktail, A Round of Free Cocktails,  A Free Lesson...  the possibilities are endless!  And all of you Cooks and Bakers dig out your favorite bakery recipes and plan to cook up some goodies to donate to the bake sale.  

Every little bit helps to make this Fundraiser a Huge Success!

SATURDAY  ~ JULY 12TH

Starting at 7:00 A.M.

Surf Contest will end around 4:00 P.M.

What an amazing guy!

Just knowing Juan has been such a pleasure over the years, but to see his company business of caring for the pools in Bejuco grow and prosper has been a truly heartwarming experience!

In the earlier days of Costa del Sol Juan worked on the team of gardeners for the developer.  He was responsible for much of the original landscape work that was done  around the community and his love of plants and flowers was obvious.  He always loved to help with ideas for the individual owners gardens and would work extra hours to assist in the planting.  His work was always beautiful!

After gaining the opportunity to care for some of the pools in the neighborhood he learned he had a strong interest in pool maintenance and decided to pursue his dream to operate a business of his own.
Juan is the epitome of a true Tico family man and his driving force is his beautiful wife Patricia.  

And so began his journey to fulfill his dream come true!

It is always a joy to see Juan meandering through the palm tree lined streets of Costa del Sol with his work wagon filled with supplies.  You will notice that he has painted on the cart Juan Canario.  That is because Juan can sing like a canary!  He is very talented with many bird sounds that will fool you into thinking there is a beautiful bird in your yard until you see him round the corner!  And he can sing beautiful songs too!  I always love to hear him working away and singing to the top of his lungs in the most beautiful melodies.

Owners and Renters alike always welcome Juan with his friendly and professional manner.  But his amazing sense of humor always makes you SMILE!

 

Juan is a hard worker and bases his work ethic on honesty and integrity.  The trust that is placed in him to service and maintain the pools is very important to him and he always strives to maintain that trust.  He is very proud of his accomplishments.  We always love to invite Juan and his Uncle Jose who works with him as he makes his rounds to join us for a cup of cafe con leches on the poolside terrace and hear the stories of what is happening in his life and with his family.  He loves to share about his many musical concerts in the church where he plays the guitar and sings for special occasions.  It is obvious that his musical talent is enjoyed by many in the community of Parrita.

Even if the pool is not in need of any maintenance it is not unusual to see Juan pop into the backyard just to check and make sure all is well with the clearness of the water.  We are always happy to see his daughter Gabriela who works with him on his reports and client updates by emailing photos of the pools via their company laptop to show their pristine condition.  

Another amazing assistant that sometimes accompanies Juan is his son and sidekick Luis!  . . . but usually only on Saturday or on holidays when there is no school.  He is an excellent student and just graduated from Kindergarten.  I feel confident that Luis will grow up to be a good businessman just like Juan!

Also musically inclined we have loved watching Little Luis grow up from a baby and enjoy his accomplished talent of dancing at the many fiestas where there is music.  We are quite sure he learned it from his Papa!



SUCCESS comes in many forms and means different things to different people.  
In my opinion Juan is a very successful man.  He is blessed with a beautiful family.  He is loved by his community.  He has built not one but two homes to shelter his loved ones.  The second home he now uses as a rental to supplement the family income.  He owns a car.  But most of all he is filled with a sense of pride of his accomplishments and finds great pleasure in pleasing his clients while also providing a good living for his family.  Juan has reached his goals and continues to strive for improvement.

We enjoyed a safe High Season with the watchful eyes of the Guardavidas on our beaches of Bejuco and Esterillos!  We offer a Special THANK YOU to Deborah & Brett for donating their time and energy to this great cause that benefits ALL those that visit our playas.  There has been a great many of you that have given generously to this needed cause.  Hopefully as the word spreads we will gain more residents that are willing to get involved and donate to this program.

The Lifeguards are excited about this great event and will be present to join in the fun.  It will give you all an opportunity to say hello and meet them personally!

Meet the Bejuco Bag Lady!

Really?  . . . the Bejuco Bag Lady!?

Well she is really not someone NEW to meet...  

But a new version of someone we all know. 

IT'S JULIE!

Well really not a NEW version of Julie... 

But a new version of a way for her to 

share her delicious cooking 

while giving us a night off from cooking!

That's right!  For only $10 per plate you can now enjoy home cooked, home delivered meals hot and ready to sit down, light the candles and enjoy....  without ever entering the kitchen! 

I am not talking about pizza or Chinese food here....  

Julie is an avid believer in fresh, healthy ingredients when it comes to her cooking and these will be made from scratch, delicious, good for you meals that will tickle your taste buds!  On a recent visit to Cali, Julie attending cooking classes at Sur La Table to learn how to enhance the flavor of her cooking while remaining true to her love of a healthy regimen with meals that are low in saturated fats and have NO GMO's.

What a great way for us to enjoy a wonderful meal that we did not have to cook and did not have to go out to a restaurant to get.  To introduce the Bejuco Bag Lady to our area Julie will be preparing her first meals on Tuesday nights and deliver the meals between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.  You need to email her your meal request with address and number of meals needed no later than 12:00 noon on Tuesday.  If you know in advance that you are planning to stay in on Tuesday and enjoy home delivery don't wait until Tuesday to place the order, just go ahead and send in your email so the Bejuco Bag Lady can be prepared with the right quantities to fill the orders.   You can send an email to get on the list for a Sunday night email post as to what will be served each Tuesday.

FOOD PREPARATION

PACKAGED FOR DELIVERY!

This past Tuesday we enjoyed our first dine in home delivery meal of Soy Ginger glazed Mahi over mashed potatoes with a side of sautéed broccoli with a hint of garlic and Parmesan!  

It was DELICIOSO!

Some of the future meals planned for this meals on wheels (which could be her bicycle) are listed and pictured below:

• Soy-ginger glazed Mahi on mashed potatoes with cauliflower augratin
• Grilled tuna on quinoa topped with a tomatoe jam
• Linguine topped with prawns and Thai peanut sauce

Prawns with Thai Peanut Sauce?!  Oh My!  My mouth is watering!

BEJUCO BAG LADY . . . We Welcome You with open arms!

The Bejuco Bag Lady services will be limited to the Bejuco community only at this time.  

Just one more reason to be happy that you live in Bejuco . . . Eh?

Happiness is . . . entering the rainy season knowing that Dining Out can become Dining In on a delicious gourmet meal without going out in the rain!  It is also a great option to plan your week around!   

As for me...  on Tuesdays I will be DINING IN!
