Here Comes Summer!
Summer . . .
That warm, sunny time of year when you hit the beach, take long walks in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful outdoors!
Summer in Costa Rica is the High Season. A time when the many downpours of rain come to a halt and the misty dampness in the air turns into hot blistery sunny days where you seek shelter from the sun instead of the rain.
"But it is always warm in Costa Rica" ... you say.
Well yes, in many areas it stays very comfortable year round but the Green Season rains add a coolness to the air and the temps are a bit lower. It is a time of year when you take to your hammocks with a good book and enjoy the sound of the rain on the clay tile roof and listen to the birds singing. A time when you get use to the sudden surprise of the loud clash of thunder and amazing thunderbolts that light up the sky. A time when the rains come down so fast and with such force that the creeks and rivers rise and the mud slides off the mountains. And as suddenly as it came it comes to a halt and the sun shines brightly and the clear sky's return as if nothing ever happened.
.... but the rich lush greenery all around reminds you that it did.
As we bid farewell to the rains and welcome in the High Season we are excited to recall the many activities and fun filled days that are a big part of this joyful time when many friends bid farewell to the cold and the snow in the North and return to Costa Rica to bask in the hot sunshine and enjoy their little slice of Paradise!
Our sleepy little village of Bejuco comes alive with the sounds of music and chatter as everyone gathers together to visit, share the holidays and to begin this "Summer" time of Sunday Fundays on the playa, BBQ's, potluck dinners, hikes through the rain forest to majestic waterfalls and magical nights on the town dining out in the many restaurants nearby.
So as we say goodbye to the rains and begin the sunny days ahead we WELCOME the return of old friends and look forward to the promise of many new friends to come!
. . . and That is PURA VIDA!

Want to Toss, Pitch or Throw a Shoe?
There is a NEW Game in town and it is called HORSESHOES! The crew at Costa del Sol has carved out a little spot in the park under the big shade tree, sunk some good strong stakes in the ground, hauled in some sand and built a really nice horseshoe pit. What better way to spend a sunny hot afternoon than cooling off in the shade with a nice cold drink listening to the clang of horseshoes on the iron stakes!
It is not unusual to hear shouts of "Ringer!" as the teams pair up 2 against 2 to toss the shoes for a point or two.
Young, Younger, Short or Tall . . . there are no restrictions on who can play.
Any day, Everyday.... Come what may.
Thursdays is tourney day they say!
So if you see a game in play come join in the fun.
It is a perfect pastime out of the hot sun.
Just look at the stake and aim for what you see...
and try not to hang it up in the tree!
A set of horseshoes will be stored in the office for the use of all.
Just sign them out and return them by nightfall.
And as we all know the Golden Rules.... Clean Up any trash or debris to keep our park clean for the next visitor.
Then there is the matter of the "Rules" if you are so inclined to play by them...
The rules shown here are based on the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America's official rules. Use them if you would like or make up your own! It's all for fun and sport so get on up there and TOSS, PITCH or THROW those shoes! And may the best team win!

The Rules
- Each player pitches both shoes followed by the opponent's two shoes.
- In pitching a shoe, the player may not cross the foul line. A foul line is marked 3 feet in front of each stake. Thus, the resulting throwing distance (foul line to opposite stake) is 37 feet. For Female, Junior, and Elderly contestants the foul line is 27 feet from the opposite stake.
- When playing teams, half the team throws from one stake and half throws from the other.
- Games can be played to 40 points in a point limit game or 40 shoes in a shoe limit game. In the shoe limit game the player with the highest points wins. If a tie exists then each player can take a half win or a two inning tie breaker can be thrown.
- Any shoe must be within one horseshoe-width (measured across the outside of the open end of the shoe) of the stake to be considered for points. (Official rules call for 6 inches max).
- The closest shoe to the stake gets 1 point.
- If you have two shoes closer than any of your opponent's, you get 2 points.
- Ringers are worth 3 points each and must completely encircle the stake so the ends can be touched with a straight-edge without touching the stake.
- If you have the closest shoe and a ringer, it's 4 points.
- If your opponent throws a ringer on top of yours, they cancel and no points are scored.
- Leaners are worth 1 point and are considered closer than any adjacent shoe except ringers.
COLORFUL GOLF CARTS OF THE PLAYERS
NO.... IT'S NOT GOLF, BUT IT IS A GREAT WAY TO GET THERE!

Catch of the Day! ~ Mahi Mahi
While we were enjoying some ceviche and fish sopa de pescado a boat pulled in and they started unloading his catch of the day. And a great catch he had! We were amazed at the number of fish that they flung into the large plastic crates and toted up to the pescaderia. We think the final count was about 10 crates and the majority of the catch was big beautiful Mahi Mahi!
The moral of the story is.......
THE FISH ARE BITING!
So all you fisherman start making your plans to come to beautiful
Costa Rica and try your rod at this fine sport!

The menu of choice on this day? Grilled chicken and fish tacos! This group just happens to be blessed with some fine grilling chefs and the wonderful Tico grill that was a gift from a local Tico makes the beach grilling experience even finer! Throw in a few favorite appetizers, and secret sauces and you are in for one of the finest dining experiences that you will find in beautiful Costa Rica! There is just something so relaxing about the break of the surf on the sand, the hot sun, the cool shade under the palm trees topped off with refreshing ocean breezes and sipping on a cold beverage while listening to great stories with friends.
And what better way to top the day off than with a
beautiful Costa Rican Pacific sunset!
Yep.....they were right when they said....
